I've made no secrecy of my opposition to Barack Obama, what he is, what he is working for and what he stands for.
My opinion of him remains unchanged.
But whether I've liked it or not, he is and remains our President, and yes, my President. If ever I expected our opposition to follow a Republican president when one wins the White House, I must submit to the same authority when a Democrat is elected. That's only fair.
I've had good reasons to doubt his capabilities in the past. And those doubts are not at all allayed by any means.
I must say, however, that the destruction of Osama Bin Laden was a remarkable achievement.
And the decision to finally move in and take him--mano a mano, personally, in a manner that allowed scientific confirmation of his identity and his demise, and not at a distance with a cruise missile or smart bomb--required a certain degree of gutsy decisionmaking.
In short, congratulations, Mr. President. All Americans hail this achievement. Thank you.
And congratulations to the men and women of the military and the intelligence community who all made it possible.
Respectfully--the fight does resume presently.
But: For now, however, we all join together, for we are still one nation. Well done, President Obama. Well done.
